UGC has fixed the session 2024-25 for implementation of the new rule. In such a situation, the university has got the benefit of not being able to take PhD admission last year. Based on this, the universities are preparing to conduct the final PhD entrance examination soon.

The university administration had prepared a new research ordinance after much effort. After the approval of Academic Council and Executive Council, it was sent to Raj Bhavan for final approval. While the university administration was still waiting for the Chancellor’s approval, a new UGC circular regarding research admission was issued, in which there are instructions to take admission in PhD on the basis of NET (National Eligibility Test) marks. Through this, UGC has standardized the process of PhD admission in all the higher educational institutions of the country.

NET result will be declared in three categories
According to the new ordinance of UGC, now the result of NET will be declared in three categories for PhD admission. Till now it was declared in two categories only. Candidates whose net percentile will be higher will fall in Category-1. Such candidates will be eligible for admission to JRF, Assistant Professor and PhD with Fellowship. Category-2 will have candidates with middle percentile. Only they will be considered eligible for admission to Assistant Professor and PhD. Only final and category-3 candidates will be eligible for admission to PhD.

According to the new guidelines of UGC, the Research Ordinance will be amended regarding the admission process. At present, the research ordinance prepared by the university has been sent to Raj Bhavan for approval. After getting approval from there, the process of amendment will be started once again. it will take time. At present the university has not been able to take PhD admissions for the last session. The new guidelines of UGC will be applicable from session 2024-25. – Pro. Poonam Tandon, Vice Chancellor, DDU
