Candidates joining the Army will have to undergo a mandatory mental test from this year. These will be examined on three parameters. In the first investigation it will be seen whether he has any tendency to harm himself. Secondly, he will not harm others and thirdly, he does not have negative tendencies socially. Only after fulfilling these three parameters will he get a chance to become a soldier. Army sources said that this provision will start from Agniveer and will be applicable to all recruits. Where there is direct recruitment, candidates will have to appear for this examination also.
It is believed that this step has been taken in view of increasing suicides or attacks on colleagues in the army and many soldiers indulging in anti-social activities. According to sources, it was started in the recruitment of fire warriors in Rohtak. Now preparations are on to implement it in the recruitment of firefighters at all the centres.
There will be examination during medical
During the medical examination, mental health will be tested on three parameters. According to sources, 100-140 soldiers commit suicide every year. The number is more when all three armies are combined. According to the information given in Parliament, 800 soldiers of the three armies have committed suicide between 2017-22. However, the jawan also attacked his colleagues or officers due to other reasons including not getting leave.
