IIMC New Delhi Deemed to be University: Indian Institute of Mass Communication has been given the status of Deemed University by UGC. After getting the status of deemed university, the institute will be able to award degrees instead of diplomas. The University Grants Commission (UGC) had in August recommended the HRD Ministry to grant deemed university status to IIMC. IIMC has confirmed this news through its official Twitter handle.
The Indian Institute of Mass Communication, in a post on X, lauded the Education Ministry for designating IIMC New Delhi and its five regional centers as deemed universities. Furthermore, the post wrote that IIMC is dedicated to making every possible effort to advance mass communication education, training and research.
IIMC New Delhi and its five regional campuses i.e. Kottayam, Kerala, Amaravati, Mizoram, Jammu and Kashmir have been given this status. IIMC has been granted the status of “Deemed University” by the Union Grants Commission (UGC) under the elite category.
IIMC will also provide degree along with the course to all the students. By getting the status of deemed university, students can obtain graduate, doctoral and post graduate degrees from IIMC. By obtaining deemed university recognition, the university can function in autonomous mode. The university can now independently design a new course structure and also conduct examinations.
