Delhi University will now, apart from the academic responsibility of disabled students, also take up administrative and social responsibilities. Under the DU Foundation, apart from allotting free education and seats to orphan students, there is a plan to temporarily allot laptops to girl students, teachers or four rooms in hostels for destitute girl students.

Chief Executive Officer of DU Foundation Prof. Anil Kumar said that apart from education, the university is also going to fulfill other social responsibilities with the help of alumni and teachers. Efforts are being made to ensure that students do not face any kind of problem due to lack of funds.

He told that DU has reserved seats for orphan students. Dr. Manjari Fernandes, a retired teacher of Janaki Devi Memorial College, has contacted and requested to provide temporary shelter to destitute women. Four rooms will be made in the hostel. He has given a grant of Rs 22 lakh for this. It may be noted that DU is constructing a hostel for girl students in the Dhaka campus at a cost of Rs 161 crore. Apart from this, another hostel is being constructed at a cost of Rs 289.61 crore. It will have more than one thousand beds for students.

One thousand laptops will be distributed

Chief Executive Officer Prof. Anil Kumar told that DU Foundation is bringing Sashakt Beti Yojana. Under this, laptops will be given to orphan girls and daughters of families whose income is less than Rs. 6 lakh. There is a plan to provide one thousand laptops in the first phase, the estimated cost of which will be Rs 5 crore. For this, former students and senior officials of various companies have been met. It is getting very positive results. Hopefully we can complete it once we get the funding. So far the foundation has collected Rs 1 crore 28 lakh.

Rs 28 lakh received for ambulance

Pro. Anil Kumar said that Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has given an amount of Rs 28 lakh for a modern ambulance. Soon the foundation will purchase an ambulance.
