A big change can be seen in CUET UG exam this year. Marks normalization in Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET UG) may be abolished from this year. According to the information given by top officials, the National Testing Agency (NTA) is planning to make many major changes in this important examination. Admission in UG courses of more than 250 universities of the country including DU, BHU, Jamia is done through this entrance examination.

Actually, in each session, different sets of question papers are given to the candidates. Although NTA makes every effort to ensure that the question papers are of uniform standard, it is possible that candidates in some shifts may find some less difficult questions in the examination paper, while candidates in some shifts may face some difficult questions. Due to this it is also possible that such candidates may score relatively less marks as compared to other candidates. To overcome this problem and ensure fairness in the examination, NTA adopts ‘UGC NET Normalization’ of marks based on percentile score.

CUET exam will be conducted in a very short time
Till now this examination used to continue for at least a month. Now there is also a possibility of it being completed in a shorter period. The agency is preparing a plan to conduct OMR sheet and computer based examination. This move will also ensure that most students get a chance to take the exam in the city of their choice.

Exam in OMR mode, large number of schools will have exam centres.
University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman M Jagadish Kumar told news agency PTI, “In view of the large number of registrations, NTA is considering the possibility of conducting examinations in OMR mode.” This will help us select a larger number of schools to become examination centres. This will also ensure that students get examination centers in their cities or towns and they do not have to go far.

Application for admission in Jamia starts, admission will be done through JEE Main in BTech and NEET in BDS.

CUET for subjects whose applications are less will be conducted in CBT mode.
Kumar said, “The method of conducting the examination in pen-paper mode for the subjects for which more applications are received, while conducting only computer-based examination in case of less number of applications is received, will ensure that only the examinations of the last two years are conducted.” In this way, CUET-UG examinations can be conducted in a shorter period. The hybrid mode promotes equal opportunities for all and ensures that geographical barriers do not hinder the educational aspirations of students in rural and remote areas.”

He said that conducting the examination of one subject on a single day would eliminate the need for normalization of marks.
