CUET UG 2024: There may be a big change in the Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate (CUET-UG) this year. For subjects for which more than 1.5 lakh applications are received, the examination will be conducted in pen-paper mode, whereas if less than this number of applications are received, the examination will be computer based only. Another major change in CUET-UG 2024 is that most of the papers are likely to be conducted in a single shift. CUET Advisory Committee – consisting of representatives from central universities, University Grants Commission (UGC) and National Testing Agency (NTA). They may announce the CUET 2024 exam dates by the end of this week. Apart from making the Common Entrance Examination for undergraduate admissions a hybrid, the number of subjects that a candidate can choose from may also be limited to six including the Common Examination, as against the present provision of 10 subjects.

According to NTA sources, the online application process is likely to start by the end of February. NTA had released the exam dates for various entrance exams conducted by it in September 2023, according to which the CUET-UG 2024 exams were scheduled from May 15 to 31.

For some papers with large numbers (registrations) and areas like Kashmir, Jharkhand and some places in the North-East, the papers will be distributed in pen-paper mode. It will be like the Medical Entrance Test (NEET-UG), which will be in OMR-based multiple choice pattern. For papers with less number of applications, the tests will be computer based. “Also, as far as possible, examinations for most of the papers will be conducted in a single shift.

The subjects that are likely to be delivered in pen-paper mode are English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. CUET-UG is the second largest entrance examination in the country in terms of number of applicants. In its first edition in 2022, 12.5 lakh students had registered, followed by around 15 lakh students the following year.
