Biotechnology is a combination of two subjects – Biology and Technology. We are continuously doing new research in the country and bringing out new results and discoveries. Biotechnology is being used in many industries and sectors in India – pharmaceutical industry, chemical industry, agriculture industry, food processing units, waste management units, hoticulture sector, energy industry, bio processing units etc.
If understood in simple language, biotechnology is used for tasks like understanding cell biology, genetics and microbiology, increasing agricultural production, discovering medicines necessary for prevention of diseases, promoting food production and environmental protection. There are basically two courses in Biotechnology – 3 year B.Sc in Biotechnology and 4 year B.Tech in Biotechnology. There is a great demand for biotech experts in Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore and Middle East countries.
